Are you going through change, or a new kind of experience? Share it with others in a very different and creative way….Much art begins with the end in mind: ‘I think I’ll make a pot’ or ‘I’d like to write a play for radio’. YUMI wants to begin a project just with people’s shared, new experiences, then work out what the best way to express them could be – perhaps a series of masks, an interactive installation, a performance etc. We want to work together as peers, and create what emerges from the experience - not just something that is already planned by an ‘expert’.
So, how will it happen?
You’ll get together informally to share your chosen experience. You’ll then be able to work out which part/s of your experience you’d like to express creatively in some way. You’ll have a facilitator. YUMI will apply for funding for the next step, and provide you with the venue and the artists - sound producers, script-writers, painters, technicians, musicians, etc - you need to work out your project. Once you’ve created your art form together you may decide that you want to exhibit or perform it. Where that takes place will be up to you all to decide: a small showing in a private home? Something on the river? An installation in Parliament Street? – the choice will be yours!
How long will it take?
This kind of process takes as long as it needs, and each group formed is likely to take different lengths of time – that’s why there is no final date set. You can meet as often as your group wants, it’s up to you.
So now…?
Are you experiencing some kind of change, or are at an important point in your life? This could be something like: becoming a parent for the first time; young and recently left home; just retired; managing a disability….then do get in touch with us. The important thing is a willingness to explore the experience, together, creatively. We’re looking to start with three to five very different groups.
