If you think you can't sing, believe me, you can with Angela!

What happens?

In the weeks leading up to the final event, there are a series of workshops at a variety of venues around town, led by Angela.

But I can't sing!

You really have no need to worry. You won't be singing on your own, or be asked to do anything unexpected which you will be uncomfortable with. Angela is particularly skilled at working with people who believe themselves not to be good singers. She is able to help people relax and really enjoy singing together in a group, and find a voice they never thought they had! Angela specialises in multicultural songs from a wide range of cultures, and performed recently in the EXPRESSIONS! Festival. At these workshops, Angela will teach the multicultural songs which will be sung on the final evening together, so you will have a good opportunity to meet people, practise the songs, and attend as many of the workshops you want.

Do I have to attend the workshops?

It is better if you can attend one or more of the workshops, to learn the songs and enjoy the expereince. Just turn up - with family and friends!

What's the final event?

This takes place in the Minster. There will be performances by several local singing groups, and you will also be able to join in with the songs you have learned beforehand. The more people there are, the more magnificent the sound will be, so do encourage everyone you know to come along.

Can I come to the event and not join in the singing?

To be able to join in the singing, you will need to have attended one or more of the workshops. However, if that is impossible please do come anyway, just to listen to the wonderful harmonies, hear some stunning singing, and feel the extraordinary energy that transmits when people raise their voices together in such a glorious space.

YUMI looks forward very much to seeing you there!

Angela's Profile

angelamajamichel@googlemail.com

AngelaAngela Michel has been leading singing workshops with people of all ages and abilities for the last ten years. Her firm conviction that everyone can sing has helped countless participants to let go of their fear and enjoy the discovery of their own voice. Her regular sessions start with a  playful warm-up and her intimate knowledge of all the harmony parts give workshop participants the necessary security.

Angela works on a regular basis with Hull Community Choir, on teacher training and other courses and conferences, as well as with students of the University of Plymouth. She has most recently spent a week at Lifeways, leading the daily singing and offering popular afternoon workshops. She also offers regular sessions in York for people of widely varying musical backgrounds, including many who cannot read music. Participants enjoy the huge breadth of Angela's musical repertoire, which largely draws from a world music canvas, although she is happily at home in medieval choral arrnagements,English rounds, or folk traditions of the European continent. For the last six years Angela has been performing with Soundsphere, a four piece vocal harmony and percussion group, who have appeared and given workshops widely at home and abroad.

Angela is available for bookings. Workshops can last from an hour to a whole day, or be spread over a series of days.
