About YUMI
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. ...Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightening about shrinking, so that other people won't feel insecure around you... As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Nelson Mandela
YUMI is a voluntary network based in York. We are establishing a Centre here to represent and reflect the richness and diversity of York people - people who have different backgrounds and beliefs and who do very different things with their lives.

YUMI works interculturally, across cultural divisions and differences, to inspire mutual understanding and respect, and to create a sustainable future that enhances people's lives.

YUMI is grass-roots, and is working collaboratively towards the creation of a venue in which York's diverse population can take a central role. The YUMI Centre will be a vibrant and relaxing place offering a range of services and opportunities that reflect the changing face of York.

In a year and a half YUMI has created a great deal of interest locally ….and is growing! YUMI now has a strong network of really supportive and committed individuals and organisations, and is planning much, much more!
